The following exercise will introduce you to some of the the investigative strategies that you will use in your IWB.
Look through the attached quotations by artists. Take some time to reflect on their meaning and choose one that you either agree with or feel that you have a personal connection to.
1. Write the quote on the first page of your IWB. Try to be creative in the presentation of the words and include any images.
2. Reflect upon the meaning of the quote and try to connect it to your personal life/your interests/ who you are.
3. Research the artist and include in your own words...
a brief bio (with photo if possible)
an explanation of the main concepts/ideas behind their work
1 or more key images of their work
discussion of any major historical/cultural/social factors that influenced that artist’s work
*analysis of a work by the artist
*Cite the sources of all information and images that you’ve included from external sources at the bottom of each page.
4. Use any of the above research to develop and image. It can be based on the style of their work, the meaning of their work, the historical context of their work, or even your interpretation of the quotation. EXPLAIN your intention on the same page.
REMEMBER there should be a balance of images and text on every page!
